Female or Feminist, Aristocratic or Loner. Feminine Artistic Associations in Chile (1914-1927)
Keywords:
Feminism, Chilean art, women’s history, Gender StudiesAbstract
The purpose of this paper is to study thoroughly the territory of relations, networks and circulations established among Chilean women artists, especially within various women’s associations. We intend to focus on the conflicts that emerge between 1914 and 1927 which not only involve the issues of gender but also social and economic differences as well as the concept of class. How do women artists relate between each other during that period? What is their position within the contemporary discussions about feminism? The identification of their visual and intellectual discourses makes it possible to perceive the female artistic production as a space of wide-ranging discussions that altered the symbolic order of the established canon.Downloads
