Abstract

Jorge Roiger participated in the Argentine informalist group with a proposal widely different from theknown group headed by the painter Alberto Greco. Following the coordinates of post-war Europe painting to some extent, the group of artists that participated in 1959 and 1961 exhibitions established the basis of the new internationalism in Argentine art. Roiger exhibited at these occasions certain photographs that were described as informalists, settling with this a categorical contradiction. This paper seeks to postulate a possible approach to the informalist work of Jorge Roiger, questioning the scope of that denomination and proposing a first approximation, from some perspective, which asserts the specificity of the photographic medium.
