Arte Colonial: Resistencia Andina

Durante el Virreinato del Perú la cultura europea, que se intentaba imponer, encontró una fuerte resistencia originaria. La defensa de la cultura local se manifestó en las expresiones artísticas del momento, traspasando el “formato español” y generando un arte genuino, reflejo de la dualidad cultural, principalmente en Cuzco, la ciudad capital del Imperio Inca, pues allí residía la nobleza incaica y, como todo centro de poder político-económico-cultural, una vasta población originaria. Si bien el programa evangelizador adoctrinaba en la fe católica y prohibía el culto público a los dioses, “los aspectos de la cultura y la fe anteriores siguieron vivos en contextos privados, y la resistencia se generalizó, incluso por generaciones, en algunas partes” (Burke, 2007).En el proceso de transculturación, los motivos católicos e incaicos se superpusieron, coexistieron y/o mimetizaron en el arte cuzqueño.Downloads
