Abstract

Vida argentina en fotos (1981), Arte fotográfico Argentino. Colección del Museo de Arte Moderno (1999) and Colección del MAMBA II (2004) are three exhibitions of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (mam) [Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires] which, from different artists and starting points, were part of the public projection of the archive, of the narration of a history of the photography in Argentina and of the constitution of one of the most important collections to the study and visibility of the photographic images in the local sphere. From these coordinates, this article aims to contribute to a possible view on the photographic collection of the mam, which means taking the curatorial practices directly related to the art collecting into account, especially to show in the public sphere the decisions and motivations that led to the constitution of an archive, the spreading of the pieces of work and the legitimacy to the interior of the artistic sphere.
