Abstract

The paper raises the question about the way in which theidea of modern political representation is constructed, starting from the analysis of the historical process by whichit takes shape at the beginning of the independence periodin the Río de la Plata. We analyses the ways in which thefigure of the representative acquires autonomy from theoriginal source of sovereignty, identified with the people. In this mutation, those popular sectors will be reduced to anew role of less importance as that of petitioners.
