The university, and in an associated way other areas of the artistic institutionality, is the social place in which these practices are inscribed, divided between teaching, study and research; the accompaniment of the investigation processes of others; writing and dissemination in different formats and supports. Art history has reviewed and redefined its object of study thanks to the criticisms developed from different theoretical frameworks and militancies, which pointed out the exclusions of the canonical narrative. Although the challenge of critical art histories at the conceptual level is clear, the need to invent narrative technologies that include new materialities and modes of operation of visualities is not always evident. This article reviews some operations on and with images in books that narrate art histories.

This article focuses on two investigation experiences during the development of Art History 7 classes in the COVID 19 pandemic context. The investigations were developed in two small towns from the province of Buenos Aires: General Pinto and Chivilcoy. This article formulates a series of questions inscribed by feminist activism in the field of cultural management in order to eliminate the principle of authority, heir to patriarchalism, verticalism, and narcissistic authorship that operate both in curatorial practice and in academic production, as well as in cultural administration to promote the management of diverse and inclusive culture. In this sense, we think of the curatorial exercise as a plural and polyphonic experience that encompasses and collaboratively links research, production, and editing tasks, avoiding selection and exclusion mechanisms as an arbitration of unappealable value.

It is understood that popular objects, such as visual images, are the competence of our disciplinary field, however, the plastic/poetic approach of these cultural pieces evidences the lack and/or categorical limitations that traditional aesthetic theory contemplates. The present work aims to investigate the artistic status of a popular, collective and contemporary practice recognized as ex-voto: a conglomerate of offerings of little houses/ models located in the Difunta Correa sanctuary (Vallecito, San Juan). This task implies revising traditional theoretical concepts, including Latin American aesthetic positions and delving into the conceptual limits of reflection.

In this interview, Federico Ruvituso reflects on his experience as director at the “Emilio Pettoruti” Provincial Museum of Fine Arts, a position he assumed at the beginning of 2020 under the ups and downs of an unforeseen pandemic.
