Abstract

Visual studies have been consolidated as an epistemological perspective for the study of images due to their wide and interdisciplinary approach. María Elena Lucero reflects on the current state of these studies, the way their advance questions art history, their differences with the semiotic approach, and the influences of the cultural studies, the postcolonial studies and the decolonial turn. She also describes the particularities that these studies acquire within Latin America, and of the history and fundaments of the ReVLaT.
