In the present work we propose a journey through the Uruguayan popular song in a context of institutional breakdown. Its expressions known as: Canto de Protesta —in the stage prior to the coup d’état 1967-1973—, Canto Popular—during the years of dictatorship, 1973 - 1985— and the Rock that emerged in Uruguay —after the democratic transition, initiated by the first elections of the year 1984 and whose period of government extends until the year 1989—. A perspective from cultural studies is used, analyzing the cultural processes in relation to social and political contexts.Downloads
