Abstract

The existing literature on chamamé generallydeals with issues merely related to its origins.However, in their book Industria Chamamé,Carlos Lezcano and Juan Pedro Zubieta carry outa phonographic and socioeconomic analysis,presenting a fresh perspective on the subject.These authors suggest that chamamé existsindependently of any theoretical discussions.In their pose of the problem they considerthe processes whereby chamamé becomes amarketing phenomenon between the 1930sand the 1960s in Argentina. For such purposes,they gather data about the different ways themusic of this genre is produced and traded.
