Abstract

Gustavo Varela analyzes the history of tango inclose relation with the history of our country.Three extremely different tangos have followedeach other since the end of the 19th centuryand during most of the 20th century. ThreeArgentinas, equally different, give context tothe different expressions of a music that hasbecome one of cultural productions with moreidentity elements in Argentina. This process ofidentification has not been spontaneous, butquite the opposite. Each of the three tangos thatVarela shows us has identified social subjectswith interests that, in some cases, can beconsidered opposite. Tell me what your tango islike and I will tell you who you are.
