Abstract

The book opens a question about the ways in which certain music styles, musicians, audiences, and musical institutions have constructed meanings around the idea of nation in our country, focusing on the period from the emergence of the last military dictatorship to the present day. The leading voices go beyond the genres socially legitimized to speak in the name of the nation —initially, Tango and Folklore, and later also Rock—. In this diversity, it is the song that allows new musical genres to take center stage in a dynamic and plural map that, in its historical development, allows for the reworking of new meanings and uses not foreseen by the creators themselves.
