Abstract

The present study intends to explore the reception of Wilhelm Worringer inLatin America during the 1950s taking as a starting point Marta Traba’s andRomualdo Brughetti’s writings about art. We will see how in spite of differingin their positions regarding modernism and nationalism, both authors resortedto the German art historian’s oeuvre in search of categories capable ofsupporting their ideas. Through these strategic appropriations, Worringerianthought saw itself revived in a context of intense debates about the place ofLatin American art in the international scene.
