This article presents a brief overview of the history of the Drawing School attached to the Museum Institute of the National University of La Plata, from its creation in 1906 until its institutional and physical separation from the Museum in 1921. It describes its initial organizational structure and affiliation, the reasons for its creation, the authorities and faculty who led it, and the reasons for its separation from the Museum. The article presents the School as the first state-run institution for teaching drawing that offered official qualifications and focuses on the system of academic correlation that the School served and some of the reasons for that system’s failure. It concludes with the School’s annexation to the University’s Higher School of Fine Arts in 1924.Downloads
