One year after his return to the country, and in line with the controversial history of the Witcomb gallery, Emilio Pettoruti participated in the First Salon of Artists from La Plata in 1925 with three works, including a nude. The reproduction of this image in the La Plata media generated a conservative reaction from representatives of the Church. Did the artist know the effect that this nude would achieve? Was it a new strategy for the Argentine painter, accustomed to the futurist scandal and the echo of his first exhibition in Argentina? Or was it an isolated case of conservative stupor within the La Plata community? This brief analysis, based on certain press articles, other documents, and images, seeks to make a historiographical contribution, both to the work in question and to the chronology of the events that occurred one hundred years ago.Downloads
