Abstract

The essay begins with the analysis of a sequence of the Histoire(s) du cinema 1a (1988) ending with the image of Lenin’s corpse. The same image appears in Chris Marker’s Le Tombeau d’Alexandre (1992), a film about a filmmaker -Alexander Medvedkine-, from the Soviet Union, the history of cinema and the montage as a visual thought. Marker’s film ends with images of Alexander’s tomb. Then we walk among other tombs, in Pietro Marcello’s The Silence of Pelešjan (2011. The essay ends with the differences and affinities between the unrealized in the history of cinema and the unrealized in the history, moving towards an image of the future.
