In the Shadow of the First Rivadavia. Memories of a Forgotten Monument
Keywords:
Memorial, Rivadavia, reception studies, centennialAbstract
In April 1909 in the Hall of the Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Buenos Aires, La Plata, the first monument in memory of Bernardino Rivadavia was unveiled. This article tries to follow the details of the commission, location and reception of the first Rivadavia from its acquisition to the present. For these purposes, our research tries to reconstruct the chronicle of its unveiling through the analysis of the local press and other documents involved. In addition to this, this work proposes both the implication of the monument to the politician in the context of the so-called Monumental Stage (1860-1920) and some possible reasons about the oblivion, re-location and present condition of visibility of this sculptural work of the early 20th century.Downloads
