Abstract

The industrial design is crossed by values of culture and is in charge of materializing the symbolic dimensions that construct signifiers that are proper to its context of belonging, fulfilling a fundamental role in cultural, social and productive development. However, this discipline comes to Latin America as an emblem of modernity with an eye on the outside, pursuing development models that are remote to our reality with the consequent theoretical orphanhood owned by local thinking. Therefore, to reflect on Latin American design we must begin by knowing how our identity characterized by diversity was built.
