The Creative Process as An Epistemic Territory

The article addresses the tension that emerges when artists enter the academic field. Notions such as objectivity, replicability, and methodological rigor prove insufficient to account for situated, relational, subjective, sensitive, and embodied artistic strategies and processes. Given this, we argue for the need to shift, on the one hand, from the concept of research to that of inquiry and, on the other hand, from the notion of methodology to that of strategy. These shifts contribute to the configuration of an epistemic territory in which the production-creation processes, linked to inquiry and artistic strategies, allow the approach to knowledge from multiple experiences. Finally, we point out the need to broaden the institutional frameworks of legitimation to recognize the plurality of ways in which art generates knowledge.Downloads
