The present work deals with the album Vistas y costumbres de Buenos Aires y de la República Argentina (1891), which belongs to the Mitre Library Archive. It is divided into two sections: the first, consisting of photographs of views of the city, with the peculiarity of being framed by advertisements of the time; and the second, a section dedicated to the customs, consisting of pictorial images that refer to typical scenes of the popular classes. We will therefore try to reflect on the notion of archive and visual culture, with the intention of being able to capture the power of images in the construction of collective imaginaries.References
