Lia Colombino, director of the Museo de Arte Indígena del Centro de Artes Visuales/ Museo del Barro, tells us about the beginnings of her career and how those experiences shaped an unprejudiced perspective to analyze the arts of Paraguay. In this framework, she discusses modern historiographic categories, ways of intervening as an institution, and shares anecdotes with us to rethink how we make visible the presence of indigenous art in contemporary times. Her particular approach to archives is present in the metaphors she constructs to explain her work and which, on this occasion, she develops based on the notions of phantasmagoria and insurgent memory.

To Archive, Watch Over and Perpetuate

In the present work, we intend to reflect about the possibilities of representation from different archives that address the same case, starting from a Dirección de Inteligencia de la Provincia de Buenos Aires surveillance report, concerning the Mesa Redonda organized by La Rosa Blindada in the year 1965. We propose to analyze comparatively how the tense dialogue of archived information within its democratization in the digital files from the portal AméricaLEE, as well as the politics and strategies of each archive in the construction of the representations. Now, as never before the archive constitutes the repository from which is possible to write another’s histories (Giunta, 2010).

Artivism: A Life Sense

This work is thought to deal deeply into the personal archive of Rafael Santos (1961- 2021), an Argentinian artist who dedicated his career to environmental issues. This analysis considers, as a case of study, the exhibition Substance Abuse, held at the Library of the National University of La Plata in 2017. The approach of his artistic life accounts for the tensions which arose when trying to define the archive. In this regard, new questions open their way to the relationship between the latter and his artistic work. Therefore, it is possible to comprehend and enrich the concept of the term, as well as to account for the consistency of Rafael Santos’ artistic practice and the sensitive validity of his gaze.

The following essay aims to delve into the historical archive of the “Estudiantes de La Plata” multi-sports club, in the capital of the province of Buenos Aires. The corpus consists of a selection of pennants from different periods of the club’s history, largely over football. On one hand, the essay addresses the constitution of these objects as a material symbol that the institution preserves as an identity element in its history. On the other hand, the construction of the Estudiantes archive as such. As a theoretical framework, concepts reviewed in the History Theory course (FDA-UNLP), such as visual culture, representation and organic and inorganic archive, will be recovered.

In this article, Maricel Álvarez is in charge, first of all, of contextualizing and describing the urban intervention Proyecto Filoctetes (2002-2007) by Emilio García Wehbi. Secondly, it deals with the decision to build an archive about the project, a collection that not only aspires to preserve the memory of the work, but also to develop as a platform for thinking about the archive in the field of the so-called living arts.

Desde el aspecto propiamente editorial, trabajan con archivos de arte y de artistas con el propósito de visibilizarlos y, también, fabrican archivos, como es el caso de Casi un diario de viaje a Aguaray de Mariana Chiesa.
