Abstract

This paper intends to question two narratives that are built around the figure of Mariano Moreno based on the analysis of two portraits: Mariano Moreno en su mesa de trabajo (1910) [Mariano Moreno at his desk], by Pedro Subercaseaux, and Últimos momentos del Dr. Mariano Moreno (1911) [Last moments of Dr Mariano Moreno], by Egidio Querciola. The analysis focuses on the use, function and circulation of the works. It is intended to carry out a tracing on its iconographic aspects next to the historical context in which they originated.
