The article proposes to deepen and expand the dimension of the ephemeral in contemporary art, to question certain metonymic excesses and to bring nuances between the fleetingness and the gradualness of an inexorable process of completion. Based on Jacques Aumont’s concept of the device, we argue that not all ephemeral intentions are reduced to specific materials per se, but rather to the multiple relationships deployed within the work itself, on the one hand, and, on the other, toward the outside, in its conscious connection with the environment and the conditions of its location.References
