Abstract

In this article, a part of the production of the Grupo Espartaco [Spartacus Group], self defined as an Argentinean revolutionary artistic movement which was active between 1959 and 1968, is analyzed. With the aim of setting out how some of the proposals within the Group’s aesthetics program are related to Argentinian artists of the end of the 19th century –who were considered pioneers in the local political art and with whom a critical relationship is built– these proposals will be located within a concept of figurative aesthetic resistance.
